Bearing Failure Question…

Today’s Podcast is a Bearing Failure Question from JWM…Here is the question.
Hi, I use porter cable routers and as a fan of your show I learned to use a router table. I have never had any router problems until I started using a table. With only limited use with the router table I have started having what appears to be bearing failures. This same problem has developed on 3 different routers. The bearings start to squeal and the shaft starts to tighten to the point I am afraid to use the router any further. Am I doing something wrong or is their something I can do to prevent this from happening?
Thanks for any help,
J. W. M.

I have been thinking about being able to discuss your hobby in a phone interview format. This means me calling you and asking a predetermined set of questions about your woodworking hobby. You answer the questions and I record our conversation then produce a special podcast about your woodworking hobby. I would ask some questions like seen below:
1) How long have you been woodworking?
2) Can you list the tools you have in your workshop?
3) How often do you work in the shop? and what kind of project do you create?
4) How many and What are your favorite of wood joints?
5) How many routers do you have in the workshop? and what are your favorite ones?
6) Can you describe some funny and/or crazy things that you have created in the workshop?
7) What have been some of your biggest challenges in the workshop? Can your describe two challenges?
What are some of the main reasons you do hobby woodworking?
These above questions are only samples and I would like to ask and have you answer any number of questions either as above or created by you…

Today’s Trivia is about a wood joint?
I am one of the strongest wood joints you can make and yet one of the simplest to make. I can be used on drawer fronts, drawer backs and in sliding joinery plus many more applications. The router bit used to cut the joinery make the channel cut in one pass. The height of the bit set up is under 1/2 the thickness of the project piece. On the project piece we cut a channel and on the receiving piece we cut a pin on either the edge or end and once cut this pin fits into the channel.
What wood joint am I?

What Jig Am I?

What Jig Am I?
Okay today’s jig is designed to go around and around and uses plunge router bits like the Plunge Roman Ogee and Plunge Straight Bit. I am either attached directly to the router base or I use a template guide attached to the router base. With the template guide I then work with a hole drilled into me the fixture that is exactly the same as the outside diameter of the template guide. I make cuts determined by the project radius measurement and make the perfect cut every time. What fixture am I? And what kind of projects can I make?

Another Way to make Custom Boxes…
Well today I am talking about how to make custom boxes and what to put into these boxes. First I want to introduce the box calculator, this is an online tool used to create custom material lists used to make two types of boxes. 1) is called The Inlaid box, which was featured in episode 801, 2) this next box calculator is featured in episode 103.
These calculators can be use to put anything into them or as shown today I am featuring wine bottles and chocolates. To build a custom made box for either wine or chocolates you first need the item you are going to place into the box. Then using the inside measurement field on the calculator you can measure the item and then input those measurements and the calculator will output the material list.
Click here to get the plans used to make the boxes above and find the online calculators…Click the sponsored link below to get the items that will fit into your custom boxes…

Monetizing my Blog Posts…
Today’s post is about me being able to monetizing my free information through sponsors. I would be adding three kinds of free information with the understanding that if you need a service of one of my sponsor’s that you will at the very least check them out.
The Sponsor:
My first sponsor I have selected is One Travel and they sell discounted air, hotel and car products used for your next vacation travel. If you are going to travel I ask that you follow my link and check out their deals…
The Information:
The three kinds of information that I want to offer is 1) Video Tips that are excerpts from the Video Library, 2) Audio Tips that are again excerpts from the Video Library, and 3) The Trivia Game Questions with gift certificate prizes for the participants that get first to fifth place in the Trivia Game Questions.
The Sponsor of this Post:
Please give me your thoughts on this new concept used to help offset the cost to produce the free information. I would like to have you send in your comments on the idea of monetizing my blog posts through sponsors…
Thanks in advance for your thoughts,
Rick
