1) Routerforums has revamped their glossary engine.

And it looks pretty good. For those of you who haven’t heard of the RouterForms Glossary it’s a database of woodworking terms that is being built by you the woodworker. Some of the great features of the Glossary are:

1) The submit a word feature.

2) Search a word.

3) Look at the profile of the person that submitted the word

4) discuss a word in the forum.

Help grow this great resource Join in Today and add a new word. To check it out go here!

2) Looking for more submissions to our joint venture E-Book.

I know all of you out there have many ideas of what kind of information is needed to help the person new to woodworking get started. I know each of you have experiences that might have gone smoother if you had the access to good information about a particular operation or technique. Maybe you needed a operational checklist or you have a recommendation on the next jig design. This is the place to add your two cents and get published.

So, help us create this great resource by adding your submission here!

Making a Checklist for Beginners?

How about this idea can you make a checklist that the beginner can print out and keep close to their Router System. How about a checklist about making the box joint set up, installing a router bit or setting up to make a linear dovetail cut. Here’s an example Checklist:

How To safely mount a router bit in a table-mounted router:

1) Unplug the router,
2) Remove the router from the table,
3) Position the wrenches to loosen the collet,
4) Loosen the collet,
5) Remove the router bit and place it in the storage system,
6) Select new router bit and place into collet,
7) Tighten collet and set the height of router bit,
8) Re-position router in table.

Please Note: Only plug-in the router after you have completed the set up process.

Hey, what is needed out there when it comes to having good information about learning the many uses of the router. John has given me the idea of getting a series of beginner checklists that are used to help someone new to routing get the feel of the process.

Dad and I have continually thought and talked about the many uses of the Router and have over the years been giving what we thought as our best  advice. We have talked about things from Table Mounting your Router to showing our best Jigs and Fixtures with the use of guides and patterns.

Today’s post is about you and your best bit of Router Information. Here is our FIRST Reversion Sample PDF to give you the idea of what we are looking to make.

Dad and I are looking to compile and produce a FREE E-Book that is a collection of the best bits of router information. Maybe you have some advice, shortcuts, mistakes and/or ideas on how use the router. Let me give you some examples of what we are looking for:

1) Can you give some Advice:

What would be the one bit of advice you would give others? If you could share one recommendation what would it be? What’s the greatest lesson you have ever learned?

2) Do you have some Shortcuts:

Have you discover any ways to make a router operation easier? or Is there any ways to get results easier? Any special jigs or fixtures you use? Are there any ways to make things easier or complete an operation faster?

3) Maybe some Mistakes:

Have you made mistakes that have set you back? Any safety problems or pitfalls that we need to watch out for? What should we NOT do?

4) Hey maybe some good Ideas:

When working on a project if there is one thing we should do first, what would it be? If there is one thing that is the most important Router Tip, what would it be? If you have to begin again on let’s say setting up your shop, what would it be?
