You making a small box and want the bottom to be flat but you don’t want to expose the edges of the plywood bottom, or you have some oversized plywood that you want to fit perfectly into the groove for the drawer bottom. This technique will solve those problems easily. Check out the video below.

I haven’t thought about a bottom made this way before, but I really like the idea. Thanks for making it so clear on how to achieve this.
Use this technique when making boxes with 1/4″ box joints. The bottom will square the box for gluing and make the bottom flush with the sides.

Hi Bob and Rick, well my router has been out of the box for a while, but now all your accessories are getting used. This sliding Dovetail bookshelf is going to be the Christmas gift for my office staff as it has been my tradition to make something for them. Haven’t figured out how to stack the chocolates inside.
Some of the simplest tips are so effective.
I keep coming up with “I would never have though of that” .
Now I know….

Somehow, I can just picture that board flying across the room when it gets “trapped” between the bit and the table-insert.

Bo:
Remember your on the cutting side of the router bit and your moving the piece into the router bit. You need to be careful about keeping the piece down on the table insert. If your unsure about how to keep the pieces on the table use feather boards to hold the pieces to the table.
Feather boards should be another tip…
