What is the size of the router table?

Got a question about the router table on the show today, thanks Joe for the question.

So hear goes the answer…

What is the size of the router table?

web_Straight_bitsThe router table on the show is 16″ wide X 30″ long and 18″ high. The router table has built in router bit and guide storage plus the offset of the base plate in the top is designed to locate the router on the table for new set ups, which makes the height of the router easy to make changes and set ups. Remember to always unplug the router before making the new router set ups.

Next, remember you need very small table fences because all the cutting is done at the router bit and the only reason for the router fence is to allow the project piece on and off the router bit. Any additional table fence justĀ  adds a hindrance to cut the project piece.

The floor height of the router table is 6″ lower than your bent elbow when standing straight up…and yes everybody is different. This is not a one size fits all woodworker solution. Don’t let anybody tell you different.

I would suggest that the table be wider and longer than the supporting table underneath for clamping purposes.
