What is up folks??

Just a short reminder about the “exercise for router enthusiasts.” This challenge is made for everybody that uses a router in the workshop. If you are a beginner then this is a excellent practice exercise that will serve you well throughout your journey of mastering the router.

For the Intermediate and advanced users I see this practice session as a way to show the others the well learned lessons that you have acquired over the years. The action of changing router bits and making a set up is the most fundamental operation and something that everybody should have a good handle doing.

I assume with the lack of response to both my post and my front page is that maybe the challenge might be to hard? The reason for this post is hopefully to get some kid of discussion going through the comments section. So please leave you opinion about the challenge at this post whether it be negative or positive.

Here is a link to the post that I want to discuss.

You can also see the topic on my front page.

    Idea good, but ….
Make something a bit more appealing, useful.

    comment from Rick…

Can you explain a bit more? Are you talking about the prize for doing the challenge or make the challenge more appealing by adding more pieces to cut or different operation or maybe something else?

    Thanks, Rick

I cheated and used the brass bars and that made it simple and also router table

    Have a great day

    Rick’s comment…

    That sounds great!

The brass bars are a good idea alright. Not necessary but a good idea just the same. I assume you also have a router table like mine. Hey, I would like to see you do the challenge? I am sure you would be able show us how it can be accomplished safely and accurately.

Next, what I would be very interested in seeing is some of these commercially build tables and their owners use their tables and show us how the challenge is done.

I’d charge waaay more than 2 Cs for doing such a silly task in such a silly way. And for being filmed performing such silliness, I’d triple the charges.

    Comment from Rick

Hey, nice to here from you Horacio…

    I assume $200.00 is 2 Cs, right?

Hummm…..you would charge a pile more $$$ to complete this task, very interesting. I would love to see your methods but because I don’t have a sponsor to pay big bucks to a professional like yourself to show such silliness, I will have to pass. It’s kinda like playing poker folks, is he bluffing or does he have the real goods. Can he change the bits with that skillful accuracy, I guess we will never know.

I consider myself very good at changing router bits and making set ups. As for the operation being a pile of silliness I disagree. That is how I was prepared for going to the Trade Shows and creating the TV show. If you don’t know how to change a router bit you are lost…I have shown this procedure to many of you many times over. I have never seen Horacio do any of these set ups, which makes me wonder can he really do this?

Just a though that you should consider, changing router bits is the most fundamental operation. Next, everybody needs to be able to do this with a good degree of safety and accuracy. Knowing how to do this procedure is very important and not silly. It required a great degree of practice.

Now back to Horacio and his silly comments. Horacio if you consider my way of changing the router bit to be silly then by all means join in and show us the way. That is what I asked, I am looking for a better way to do it. Hey Horacio forget the video just send me photos and step by step on the better way to change router bits so I can post and show all who are interested. Folks I don’t expect a response from this professional.

    Regards,

    Rick

I am trying to write this critique without appearing to be very negative.

I do not feel that this “challenge” would bring me anything, if you don’t know how to change a router bit maybe routing isn’t for you.

Also I do not have the time nor the money needed to invest in the required MDF as I am trying to finish my first canoe build. This canoe build, naturally, involved the use of a router.

I was able to use my router partly because of some of the tips & tricks from TRW.

Keep up the good work guys and keep issuing the challenges, one day one of them will light my candle and I’ll be up and at it.
