I will cut holes in 3/4 ply with a 3/8 bit in one shot using the 3 hp. As far as brand --- that is up to your preference - -but generally I pick the least expensive -- unless I just have to a certain feature - I have found that Hitachi is very good and of course the Porter Cable as to being my main choices the size of router that you need — depends on what you are going to do — I would always choose the next size larger than what you think you need .
